Arthritis and Pain

Despite being very common, arthritis isn’t necessarily well understood. Did you know that arthritis is not actually a lone disease, but kind of an informal way of referring to joint pain or joint diseases? There are more than 100 types of arthritis which don’t discriminate based on sex, race or age, although it is most common among women and more likely as we age.

 

Disc-Flex I like this for my patients that have disc issues – though it is useful for all types of skeletal pains and arthritis.  Besides the goodly amount of 2 herbs – boswellia and devil’s claw – that work great against inflammation in joints, there is grapeseed extract to improve circulation in those small arteries that go to your joints.  The l-carnosine, alpha lipoic acid and grape seed extract all work to protect the disc against what are called glycation end products, or AGEs.  I guarantee you will be hearing more and more about these AGEs.  They are an important reason why you don’t want to grill your meat too intensely.  AGEs often occur when a sugar links to a protein molecule during food preparation or cooking.  For example, whipping sugar into egg whites will produce a lot of them.  These AGEs stiffen up cells – whether they are in the kidneys, brain, blood vessels or joints.

Glucosamine MSM with Joint Comfort Herbs This is another nicely balanced support for arthritis.  It has glucosamine, which continues to be honored as a joint-protective ingredient – though I do not think it is good without other supportive elements, as is present here.  The same goes for the MSM, which helps the body acquire sulfur – especially useful if you don’t eat onions or foods in the broccoli-kale family.   This, along with the ginger and turmeric taps down in very effective ways, local inflammatory processes around damaged joints

Joint Complex Single Dose This is a great product that some of my patients have found made all the difference in their daily aches and pains.  It has four particularly useful ingredients, three of which are in a leading-edge form.  Read the “Further Details” section to see how the 40 mg. of special collagen is twice as effective as 1500 mg of glucosamine and 1200 mg of chondroitin for joint comfort and flexibility.  Furthermore, this has MSM, which can often help with joint inflammation; and the forms of cucurmin and boswellia are very effective to get these important anti-inflammatories into your joints.  What is unique about this formula is that its ingredients are formulated for much better absorption and use by the body.  Muscle Cramp/Tension Formula This is a great formula for those who may have leg cramping at night, or just regular muscle tightness during the day.  The magnesium in it is an excellent one for getting absorbed and working in the body.  As I tell my patients, most magnesium out there in drugstore brands is magnesium oxide, which is not good for your stomach.  The magnesium and the herbs in this formula relax the nervous system and muscles.  As the bottle says, it promotes overall relaxation
